The SC Safe Home Grant Program is committed to helping coastal South Carolina homeowners strengthen their homes and become more resilient. We also recognize that some needs fall outside the scope of what our program can provide.

To support homeowners more broadly, we’ve compiled a list of additional resources that may assist with emergency preparedness, disaster recovery, resilience planning, and general education. We value the trust you place in us and hope these resources offer meaningful support on your path to greater resilience.

• American Red Cross – Hurricane Safety & Preparedness Offers guidance on evacuation planning, disaster supply kits, high‑wind preparation, hurricane watches and warnings, post‑storm safety, and more.

• FEMA – Federal Emergency Management Agency Provides national resources for preparedness, protection, response, recovery, and hazard mitigation.

• FLASH – Federal Alliance for Safe Homes A nonprofit organization focused on disaster safety, home strengthening, and property loss mitigation.

• Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) / FORTIFIED Program  Conducts research on reducing property losses from natural hazards. The FORTIFIED program offers standards for building and retrofitting homes to withstand severe weather.

• National Hurricane Center  The primary source for real‑time tropical weather updates, forecasts, and hurricane preparedness information.

• South Carolina Emergency Preparedness Division  Provides state emergency plans, including hurricane, earthquake, and hazard‑specific guidance for South Carolina residents.

• SC Wind and Hail Joint Underwriting Association (SCWHUA)  Offers wind and hail insurance coverage for coastal areas designated as the “beach” region.

• South Carolina Building Codes Council  Oversees the adoption and implementation of statewide building codes and works with local governments on code enforcement.

• South Carolina Coastal Insurance Information (SC Department of Insurance)  Provides information on coastal insurance costs, available coverage options, and consumer resources.

• South Carolina Insurance Association  A nonprofit organization offering property and casualty insurance information for consumers and media.
