- Application for Appraiser License [pdf 101k]
- Appraiser licenses are renewed in October of odd-numbered years. The fee is $80 unless you are a resident of a state that charges a fee in excess of $80. Fees are retaliatory under South Carolina Law.
For example, the fee for Georgia residents is $100. The fee for North Carolina residents is $150. These fees would apply in South Carolina.
- If unable to verify license status in the appraiser’s home state, certification from the applicant's resident Department of Insurance is required. The certification must be legible and less than ninety (90) days old. The certificate must show the applicant is licensed in his or her home state as an appraiser and that an appraiser examination has been passed. If the applicant's home state does not require an appraiser examination, then a certificate can be used from another state where the applicant is licensed and has taken and passed an appraiser examination.
If the above cannot be provided, then the applicant will be required to pass South Carolina's appraiser examination. Registration for South Carolina's appraiser examination is done through PSI. Contact PSI directly at 800-733-9267 or online at www.psiexams.com.

South Carolina law requires all licensees to notify the Department of any change in address within (30) days. Failure to notify the Department with the 30-day statutory timeframe constitutes a violation of the South Carolina insurance laws. It is the statutory responsibility of the licensees to make certain their mailing, home and/or business address records with the South Carolina Department of Insurance are up-to-date. Having inaccurate address and other contact information on file with the Department may result in licensees not receiving important notices and other communications. Licensees may be subject to administrative disciplinary action for not timely notifying the Department of an address change. In accordance with Section 38-2-10 of the South Carolina Code of Laws, individuals could be subject to administrative penalties up to $2,500 for each violation of South Carolina insurance laws.
Effective July 1, 2009, the Department will no longer accept paper requests for address changes. If you are licensed in your home state, follow Section A procedures. If you are not licensed in your home state, follow Section B procedures.
