NFIP Proof of Loss Extension for Hurricane Matthew Claims

A standard National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policy requires a policyholder to send a complete, signed, and sworn-to proof of loss document to the insurer within 60 days of the date of loss.  Due to the extensive flooding resulting from Hurricane Matthew, many policyholders may not be able to meet this deadline.  As a result, FEMA has extended this requirement by an additional 60 days for all claims related to Hurricane Matthew in South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia.  Policyholders will now have 120 days from the date of loss to provide the insurer with a complete, signed, and sworn-to proof of loss document.
